Dsquared2 makes a splash in Mayfair

LONDON — Dsquared2 has opened the biggest store in its history, and its first in the U.K., a brand universe on the corner of Savile Row and Conduit Street in London’s Mayfair. The 8,612-square-foot store spans three floors and is housed in a newly refurbished building formerly occupied by brands such as Voyage and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. The new-concept interiors are similar to those of the New York and Los Angeles units, and nod to the twin brother designers’ Canadian roots. There are black antler chandeliers and light fixtures, and black-and-white backlit woodland scenes in the changing rooms and on the stair landings. The ceilings are soaring, and the pale carpeting laid over black resin floors is meant to resemble a forest trail. There’s also a polished city slicker feel to the store, which brand owners Dean and Dan Caten designed together with the Milanese architectural firm Storageassociati. Velvet armchairs, brass fixtures, black marble surfaces, and the overall dark interiors give the space an urban edge. The ground floor carries the runway and formal men’s collections, while the casual, sneaker and denim lines are downstairs. Women’s wear is on the first floor.
