Romanian-born, San Francisco-based designer Camelia Skikos studied fashion design in London before moving to the City by the Bay in 2003, where she became the head designer at Levi’s, designed for Gap, and now teaches fashion design at the Academy of Art University. She launched her eponymous label in 2010 and this season collaborated with men’s label Whichkim, designed by Dahae Kim, on a men’s and women’s wear collection inspired by artist Victor Vasarely. There was a strong play with graphic circles, which worked well with the exaggerated hemlines, layered separates and cutout shapes. The concept of duality — hard/soft, shiny/matte, black/white, masculine/feminine — showed best in bell-shaped capelets and dresses over cropped trousers.
