SETTING UP SHOP: The British leather goods and ready-to-wear label J&M Davidson is moving into the luxury-heavy Mayfair district this fall. The 850-square-foot boutique will stand at 104 Mount Street, which formerly housed the Mackintosh store, and is nearby to Céline, Gianvito Rossi and Moynat. John Davidson – who founded the label with his wife Monique in 1984 – said that he plans for the space to evoke “modern luxury,” and has commissioned London firm Universal Design Studio, in association with Nicholas Chandor, to design the unit. The new location also marks a return to the Mayfair area for the label, as it was at one time based on nearby Dover Street. The label already has a store on Golborne Road in west London, along with a store in Tokyo’s Aoyama district. Japan currently represents around 50 percent of the label’s business, Davidson said, noting that the brand is also plotting stores in Paris and New York. The new store will carry the fall 2015 accessories and ready-to-wear collection, which the duo presented at a London showroom Wednesday.
