Iris Van Herpen Exhibit Heads to Atlanta

ADDED DIMENSION: Dutch designer Iris van Herpen’s avant-garde creations are headed to Atlanta. The city’s High Museum of Art will host the first U.S. exhibition of Van Herpen’s fashions next fall. “Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion,” jointly organized with the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands, will go on show from Nov. 7 to May 15, 2016, before touring other North American institutions. The exhibition will feature 45 outfits selected from collections designed between 2008 and 2015, including some of the world’s first examples of 3-D printed fashion. Performers including Beyoncé, Björk and Lady Gaga have worn Van Herpen’s futuristic designs. “Iris van Herpen’s work is an incredible fusion of artistic expression, craftsmanship and creativity,” said Sarah Schleuning, curator of decorative arts and design at the High Museum of Art. “The marriage of traditional, handcrafted designs and 21st-century technology makes her work innovative, dynamic and a signifier of a bold, new future for fashion design. With this exhibition, the High continues to champion the outstanding visionaries who design the world around us,” she added. The Groninger Museum in 2012 hosted the first large-scale solo exhibition of van Herpen’s work. In 2013, her creations went on show at the International Center for Lace and Fashion in Calais,
